Zodiac by Romina Russell (Zodiac #1)

I have to admit Romina Russell did an amazing job to create the world, it was beautiful, amazing, and spectacular world. Hey who can ignore a universe with Zodiac for their planet? It was so good to imagine how you can live in a place of your own Zodiac.

For me, it's Virgo and below is Romina's description about live in Virgo:

Moira’s is a benevolent dictatorship. She is a passive monarch who allows her people to police themselves and only interferes when cases are brought before her.

Given their controlling natures, Virgos find it impossible to submit to someone else’s command. So Moira ensures that every household has access to food, water, housing, and education, but she allows her people to make their own decisions about all other aspects of their lives. She has only two commands: Everyone must contribute in some capacity to growing grain, and no Virgo will interfere with the pursuit of happiness of any other.
Cool! Take me there, please. I would absolutely love to live in Virgo.

BUT I had so many problems with its story line. Like how a young girl who knows nothing about saving the world suddenly has a responsibility to be a leader for all of the planets. Rhoma Grace, our protagonist was literally didn't do anything to achieve her title, Holy Mother of Cancer. She was just a normal student who enjoys her senior year. Suddenly there was an explosion and everyone died including their previous Holy Mother, Mother Origene. The next day, the Council of Advisors appoint her to be their next Guardian or their beloved Holy Mother.

When the Zodiac was new
There was a thirteenth star
The first among us knew
But in time we forgot
Now the serpent, he is back
And we must find a way
To push his presence out
Or he’ll be here to stay
Trust in Guardian Rho
She’s our galaxy’s best chance
She’ll make Ochus go
He’ll forget his plans

Ummm. That song was intended to be fun, right? But it failed to make me to laugh.

Not only that, Rhoma was the only one who has seen who is their enemy. SHE IS THAT SPECIAL ONE. There is no other Guardian or Adviser or someone besides her who seen it coming. So, it was her duty to warn another houses that they all are in danger.

My other problem is the romance. I have no problem for love triangle if the author can present it in the right way. But I hate those who played with two hearts at the same time. It's quite disturbing to read about Mathias and Hysan fight and yell at each other and Rho simply do nothing. *sigh*

I may pick the second book because there are so much potential for Zodiac. Please don't ruin it again, Romina.

Rating 2/5 stars
